RESPONSIBILITY:
Captain of TrilobiteEXPERIENCE:
20 YearsPersonal Experience
My experience in the world of boating began in the Dominican Republic in his early adolescence, back in 1997 when his father decided to buy the first panga with an outboard engine for commercial deep-sea fishing. They caught tuna, mahi-mahi, wahoo, marlin, and sailfish near the FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices). This allowed his to learn, understand, and read the ocean from its simplest origins, without relying on technology, much like Santiago in the novel “The Old Man and the Sea.” In 2003, Mattia purchased his first serious boat, a Luhrs 290 Open with a diesel engine, in Puerto Rico.
Already deeply passionate about Marlin fishing, he dedicated his life to chasing Billfish. Initially, he explored the Atlantic, and later, he ventured across the entire Pacific, from Baja California’s Magdalena Bay to Panama, passing through incredible places such as the coasts of the Sea of Cortez, the Sea of Cortez, the Sea of Cortez, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
Last Years
Over the last four years, with the Trilo Bite by Grand Slam Blue Fin Pro staff team, they have sailed over 20,000 miles, participating in international tournaments like the two Bisbee’s Blue and Black Marlin tournaments, the Pelagic Rock Star, winning first place at Pelagic Pura Vida, participating in the Pescadora Marina Pez Vela Tournament, winning the Women’s World Fishing Challenge, and securing second place at the White Marlin Marina Cap Cana Tournament, the last event in which we participated in May 2023.
He hold a captain’s license of IMO 500 Ton and have been involved in the fishing charter business since 2005.
His goal is to continue living the dream of billfish fishing and to share this passion with his team and others.
